What is the purpose of this forum
Not trying to be snarky, just wanna know what we're meant to post on the BKA forum in general. Just content related to the BKA or anything relating to the subforum's content. e.g. anything involving kendo in general goes into kendo, same with jodo, etc
Re: What is the purpose of this forum
Thanks for asking a really good question as this is a new thing. The primary intention is for it to be a platform to give you a voice in how your association is run and helping us to engage with members.
A problem in the past is that people never got opportunities to give feedback, ask questions and make suggestions /requests etc. Agm time historically was dominated by standard agenda items by the NC and any residual matters arising being niche in nature, often pushed by a select group, and of limited interest to the average member.
This forum method does not suffer from these constraints and allows a fuller and wider exploration of things raised that can be properly considered.
If something merits being a votable matter we will take it to the final agenda to vote on. However for this to happen there needs to either be NC consensus to take it forwards or there needs to be a high volume of members pushing that point (NC will also take a view on this).
This is a change from the past (for the better) as it prevents a handful of people pushing their agenda of limited significant to the BKA and dragging in everyone to vote on something of zero relevance or value to them.
If there is a query related to a specific officers remit I would suggest you post into that officers topic first. For example my role is overall treasury management but I don't ordinarily dictate how money is spent by each Bu. If you're looking for money to be spent on something this should be directed at the relevant bucho. If you're asking about financial controls that would be me. Some other questions might involve more than one person/group.
Trust this answers your question. Going forwards this can develop into general chat about your art, asking for technical advice etc etc. It's a forum for the members.
Only reminder is to keep it respectful.

Re: What is the purpose of this forum
Surely, if the forum is for BKA-related matters that are not for non-members (such as the Batman v Hulusi thing), surely new forum members should be verified as BKA members before gaining access to the content?
I joined last night using an email address that is not related to my BKA membership account and was allowed in without any checks. Sure, it asked for my BKA number, but I'm fairly sure that this forum isn't tied to the BKA database and I could've just as easily entered '666' as my membership number.
Come to think of it, who has 666 as a BKA number? Enquiring minds want to know.

Hi Scott
The purpose of the forum is primarily to facilitate engagement and communication as per my previous reply.
You do being a valid point re the example given. That is something that can be looked into going forwards but as it stands I don't see it as a pressing priority.

Re: What is the purpose of this forum
If membership verification cannot be made upon registering, then maybe a rule that all members should sign posts with their name and BKA number would help?
I think the forum is a good idea, and this years AGM went really smoothly with the new process.
Cheers
