New Coach Announcement

Post by GerryK »

Appointment of GB Team Coach

The British Kendo Association (BKA) is delighted to announce Muneto Takanami as the new GB team coach. Muneto is a graduate of Kanoya University Kendo program (National Institute for Fitness and Sport) and was intrinsic to the negotiations the BKA had with Japanese Universities to instantiate the BKX program.

Muneto has trained and lived in the UK and has a very clear understanding of the remit – to win gold at EKC level and to produce individual EKC level Champions. We have an outstanding group of squad members with immense potential – this appointment will actualise this.
Muneto via his connections with Japanese Police Kendo was also instrumental in the involvement of Nishimura and Matsumoto sensei at the BKA Kendo summer seminar and will leverage this to engage specialist coaches of All Japan Level.

This is an exciting appointment and has the potential to take GB where we should have always been – at the very top of European Kendo. As a consequence of this we anticipate significant announcements re the extension and expansion of the BKX program and the involvement of significant Japanese Shiaisha in squad development.

I would like to thank Andy Fisher sensei for his commitment and unwavering support for the squad during his tenure.
Watch this space.
