Subject: Supporting the Future of the GB Kendo Squad
Dear Members,
It has been a long term hope and ambition of the British Kendo Association to see the GB Kendo Squad become self-sufficient. The support of our members and the Kendo Bu to date has been absolutely fantastic and we have already achieved a great deal, I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude for all the support shown so far.
The recent successes of the GB Squad at the European Kendo Championships (EKC) and World Kendo Championships (WKC) demonstrate our potential. With the right support, we believe the squad can establish itself as a leader at the EKC and regularly win medals on the world stage at WKC.
To reduce the financial burden on individuals and create a sustainable future for the squad, we have established a dedicated fundraising team and created an initial list of potential benefactors, donors, and sponsors which will be shared over the coming months. Our aim is to allow our athletes to attend extra training camps, seminars, international competitions, and access high-level guest coaches. The new coach has been extremely proactive in sourcing sponsors, and we look forward to building relationships with these companies.
We are now reaching out to the wider BKA membership for your help:
If you have contacts with companies, organisations, or individuals who may be interested in sponsoring the squad, please let the Kendo Bu know.
Please consider supporting our soon-to-be-launched GoFundMe page. Every contribution, no matter the size, directly benefits the squad.
Squad polo shirts are currently available for purchase, with all profits going to squad funds. Additional merchandise is also in development. Please consider purchasing these as they are an excellent way to show your support, especially ahead of EKC 2026.
We would like to thank all past donors for their generosity. The National Committee, particularly the Treasurer, has also expressed its strong support for this new fundraising initiative.
We are committed to making this plan a success, and while there is no guarantee of achieving every goal, we assure members that this will not be due to a lack of effort. The dedication shown by the squad and those supporting them has been outstanding, and we are confident that with your help, we can reach new heights.
Thank you for your continued support of the GB Kendo Squad and the future of British kendo.
With best regards,
[MalcolmGoodwin/ On behalf of the Kendo Bu]
